203 SANETOMO 源実朝

Minamotono Sanetomo was the third shogunate general of the Kamakura Shogunate. He was the second son of Minamotono Yoritomo and Hojo Masako. After his elder brother, Yoriie, left to become a Buddhist priest, Sanetomo became the general at the age of 11 with the support from the Hojo family. Because he was too young at the time, his grandfather, Hojo Tokimasa, was in power as the first authority. Unlike his older brother, who was good at martial arts, he favored imperial court culture such as Waka and Kemari.
